Clerics of the Snake Cult

In B/X D&D the game paints a very interesting picture of the Cleric character class. While the original concept was from Peter Cushing's Van Helsing, the list of spells and magic items for Clerics suggests another strong influence: snakes.

Snake-like spells include:
Snake Charm
Speak with Animal
Growth of Animals
Sticks to Snakes
Neutralize Poison
and one of the limited number of magic weapons a Cleric can use:
Snake Staff

Considering the Snake Cult from the Original Conan movie, and a number of other pop-culture Fantasy/Snake ideas from the early 1980s it might be interesting to play Clerics in this way.
